Cov hoping for one Hull of a good performance…

Two years ago, almost to the day, Coventry was about to embark on its 2015/16 campaign with a home game against Wharfedale. It was a time of great optimism, with the club having finished a commendable third the season before, recruited strongly (so we were led to believe) and having had a very encouraging pre-season…

Fantasy team poll – results

As promised, today’s post details the results of the recent poll designed to be a light-hearted look at what the strongest side taken from the combined squads over the last two years might look like, as selected by readers of this blog. In all, just shy of 200 readers took part which made it the most…

Ain’t No Stopping Us Now…

Look, Lemme tell you this I know you know someone who’s got a negative vibe (Euhh) And if you only help it will only keep it alive (Sh-yeah) They really don’t have nowhere to go Ask ’em where they’re going They don’t know McFadden and Whitehead – Ain’t No Stopping Us Now 11 changes to…

Two heads…

With the opening game of the pre-season now just days away, there’s lots of excitement and anticipation amongst Cov supporters and, even though the club are wisely keeping things very low-key, it’s difficult to avoid the feeling that the changes currently taking place at the Butts Park Arena might yet lead us much further down…

Why the unbeaten run now and despicable Cov, too

I imagine the question that most Cov supporters will be asking themselves is why on earth it took Coventry until mid-March to exhibit the kind of consistent form that we all knew they were capable of producing? Yes, prior to then there had been odd games where you thought maybe, just maybe, there was a faint spark of…

So who else would you offer a contract to…and tomorrow’s team

One of the most telling statistics to come out the drawn game against Blackheath last Saturday is that it resulted in our longest unbeaten run of the season – just 4 games in total. Not what we were expecting back in September but what we were hoping for come Christmas. It’s been that disappointing.

Moseley, ‘Derby ’til I die’ and we have only ourselves to blame…

Yesterday was a sad day for Moseley…or Birmingham Moseley as we’ll have to get used to calling them come June onwards. The rebranding of the club is an attempt, apparently, at creating a wider appeal across the city and to generate more sponsorship, although I doubt many who follow local rugby will see Birmingham Moseley as anything but…

Blackheath, Moseley and Creative Parallel…

So today is to be my last away game of the season, having made the decision that with nothing really to play for, Wharfedale is probably a bit too far for a day trip. I always enjoy travelling, whether it be with friends as it was a couple of weeks ago or by public transport as is…

DMP et al.

I always feel much happier when Coventry release the team news on a Thursday afternoon, rather than delaying it until Friday. An early announcement suggests that the coaches aren’t waiting on news from players who might be carrying an injury and as a result could suffer an adverse reaction on Friday morning, following Thursday’s evening training session….

Who will be left to feed the Dog…?

Just how worried should we be…? Who will be left come September who really understands exactly what it means to wear the famous Cov shirt? Who will be there who understands the importance of the ‘Cov Dog’ and to explain to players new to the squad its significance to Coventry supporters? Who will be there to feed the…

Cov prove a point…

Another loss. But the majority of the crowd of nearly 12oo will have left the Butts yesterday feeling that in a season of broken dreams, Coventry had a least restored some pride in themselves as a team and in the faithful who have remained, well….just that. Faithful. The 12-13 defeat proved a point…and a valuable one…

The Boss is back in Coventry…

Everybody’s got a hungry heart Everybody’s got a hungry heart Lay down your money and you play your part Everybody’s got a hungry heart Hungry Heart – Bruce Springsteen

Broadstreet RFC, who would you retain and Ealing Trailfinders or Moseley…?

If Coventry supporters are feeling somewhat down at the moment, spare a thought for those who follow Broadstreet. It’s not been the best of seasons for them either and last weekend’s result against South Leicester means relegation is now a probability rather than a possibility. South Leicester travelled to Coventry’s near neighbours  in a precarious…

I’ve been down so goddam long that it looks like up to me…

It’s just taken one good performance from Coventry at the weekend to lift my spirits no end. Even then it was only the draw and not a win. But lifted somewhat they are. I guess that’s because of where they were prior to the Richmond game…which if it wasn’t rock bottom, then it was pretty damn…

Cov to whip Devon’s cream….

After a performance like the one we witnessed on Saturday, it’s hardly surprising that this Saturday’s game away at Plymouth can’t come quick enough for many supporters, although I understand that given it was such a bruising encounter, perhaps the players feel they might deserve a little longer to recuperate…

Drawing positives from the Richmond game…

Sometimes you just have to face up to the fact and admit that you were wrong and apologise. I’m sorry, Scott. I was wrong. There you go. And the reason for the apology…? Well, yesterday I questioned Scott’s selection for the Richmond game in that I felt experience was going to be key against the league leaders:…
