Cov hoping for one Hull of a good performance…

Two years ago, almost to the day, Coventry was about to embark on its 2015/16 campaign with a home game against Wharfedale. It was a time of great optimism, with the club having finished a commendable third the season before, recruited strongly (so we were led to believe) and having had a very encouraging pre-season…

Training ground update…Cov looking sharp

Words can make you pay and pay Four-letter words I cannot say Panty, toilet, dirty devil Words are trouble, words are subtle Words of anger, words of hate The Tom Tom² Club – Wordy Rapping Hood – (aka Jubb, Poole, Wheatcroft  and Howe) It looks as if Coventry are certainly up for the challenge of Ampthill…

Hard done by Moseley lose to Blaydon…the run in to the end of the season

Oh dear. Blaydon 25 – 12 Moseley. Blaydon were at the races and won… …Moseley fell at the first hurdle. Yesterday, it seems as if Kevin Maggs’ worst fears were yesterday realised. Without 5 players following the England Counties game against Scotland Club XV on Friday,  Moseley made the long journey up to a resurgent Blaydon. The…

Nighthawks, clueless in Coventry, the train man…

It would appear that the Nighthawks enjoyed a much better second half yesterday evening against Cambridge University than they did the first,  if  STC Teamwear’s tweet is anything to go by. Great performance @Official_CURUFC and plenty of pressure in the 2nd half but a well deserved 33-21 win. @VarsityMatch is going to be good! —…

The waiting game…

Every time that I fall for that same old trick I punish myself with the same old stick I want to believe it so badly I deceive myself Forgetting reality Todd Rundgren – The Waiting Game Before moving on to anticipate the week ahead, it’s probably worth reflecting a little on Saturday’s visit to Jersey. No…

Why the unbeaten run now and despicable Cov, too

I imagine the question that most Cov supporters will be asking themselves is why on earth it took Coventry until mid-March to exhibit the kind of consistent form that we all knew they were capable of producing? Yes, prior to then there had been odd games where you thought maybe, just maybe, there was a faint spark of…

Home and away…

What a turnaround. Suddenly the top teams begin to look ordinary as Coventry, unbeaten in five games, become the form team in the league and start to show signs of what might have been had they managed this level of consistency from the start of the season. The back row look a yard quicker than they did back…

So who else would you offer a contract to…and tomorrow’s team

One of the most telling statistics to come out the drawn game against Blackheath last Saturday is that it resulted in our longest unbeaten run of the season – just 4 games in total. Not what we were expecting back in September but what we were hoping for come Christmas. It’s been that disappointing.

Blackheath, Moseley and Creative Parallel…

So today is to be my last away game of the season, having made the decision that with nothing really to play for, Wharfedale is probably a bit too far for a day trip. I always enjoy travelling, whether it be with friends as it was a couple of weeks ago or by public transport as is…

Anyone else feeling any guilt, awards’ day and comedy evening

The end of the season is fast approaching. An if I’m honest, I’m not quite sure how to feel about it. After all the disappointments we’ve had this season, in some respects it just can’t come quick enough. I’m getting to the stage now where the remaining games are almost (almost, mind you) secondary to the news that has…

Defending the indefensible and Rob Conquest

Watch Coventry play like they did yesterday and you begin to wonder why just so many of the squad are soon to be in receipt of their P45s. UB40’s 1981 anthem for the unemployed could well do with a 2016 rewrite, with the title updated to reflect the Cov’s current predicament …not longer ‘One in Ten’, instead it’s ‘Eight in…

What if and if only…

The Cov Dog must still be barking this morning. Fed and watered yesterday evening and having slept the sleep of the contented, it will have woken this morning eager for more. Let off the leash in the afternoon, it snapped and snarled at the heels of a Darlington team than grew increasingly frustrated as the game went…

Henley v Coventry – Regatta de (blue et) blanc

Rio riay riayo Rio riay riayo Rio riay riayo Rio riay riayo, riayo, riayo, riyao Riya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya Yao Regatta de Blanc – The Police ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whilst I totally accept the need for the odd two-week break between League 1 games, both to alleviate possible fixture congestion following previous bad…

‘An exciting future’ – comparatives or superlatives?

Glad to see that Jon Sharp seems to have taken a leaf out of Rowland Winter’s book and announced the imminent departures of four Coventry coaches through the most appropriate channel  – the club’s own website. I’ve always felt that news of any significance should  go through the website as that way supporters have the…

A make up, not a break up…for the time being

I’ve succumbed. And I blame John Wilkinson… After the Esher game, I’d prepared myself mentally for a three week break from watching Coventry, accepting as I did that Blaydon was too far to travel by public transport. I knew that I’d have a nervy afternoon sitting by the computer, switching from website to another  trying to get regular…
