A new era dawns, but the sun hasn’t quite set…

Wharfedale’s season reaches its conclusion on Saturday with a home match against the famous Coventry club. The iconic visitors were relegated from the Championship six seasons ago, since when they have rung the changes on and off the pitch in an effort to find a formula which will restore them to the status which their…

A fine idea or a brilliant mistake…?

Farewell to the following  who have seen it out until the bitter end…some great players, some great coaches, some great memories and some very appreciative supporters. Thank you…such a shame the journey couldn’t continue. You’ll be missed. It’s either a fine idea or a brilliant mistake. No need to say anything else… Except… …goodbye… Now I try hard…

What should supporters be hoping for over the close season…?

I don’t think Rowland Winter officially takes over the reins until the end of May, by which time we’ll only be 8 weeks away from the pre-season friendlies. However, two months is plenty of time to change things around and put in place the various systems that will be so relied upon come the start of the season….

Why the unbeaten run now and despicable Cov, too

I imagine the question that most Cov supporters will be asking themselves is why on earth it took Coventry until mid-March to exhibit the kind of consistent form that we all knew they were capable of producing? Yes, prior to then there had been odd games where you thought maybe, just maybe, there was a faint spark of…

Ampthill, ‘Moseley face meltdown’ – a warning to Cov?

It was a great day yesterday. Not quite the celebration it should have been, especially for Scott Morgan and Peter Glackin, but a great day all the same. It was such an important win, despite the fact that it will make little or no difference to our final standings in the National 1 table when the…

Home and away…

What a turnaround. Suddenly the top teams begin to look ordinary as Coventry, unbeaten in five games, become the form team in the league and start to show signs of what might have been had they managed this level of consistency from the start of the season. The back row look a yard quicker than they did back…

It’s been a long time coming…

Sam Cooke once sang… It’s been a long time coming. whilst at the same time acknowledging… (But) I know a change gonna come Oh, yes it will. Change is surely on the way, bringing hope with it. But that is for the future. Today is about endings, however painful they may be.

So who else would you offer a contract to…and tomorrow’s team

One of the most telling statistics to come out the drawn game against Blackheath last Saturday is that it resulted in our longest unbeaten run of the season – just 4 games in total. Not what we were expecting back in September but what we were hoping for come Christmas. It’s been that disappointing.

More signings, Plymouth and Exeter and the Awards’ Day

So, another three signings and a couple of retentions… I’m not sure whether I’m reading too much into the announcement, presumably written by Rowland Winter, but the blurb alongside Cliffie reads: comfortable at centre or fullback joined from Championship side Rotherham and has quickly scored over 1000 points in just short of 100 caps

Broadstreet and Dave Addleton

Moseley weren’t the only local team playing national league rugby to have their relegation confirmed on Saturday. That fate also befell Broadstreet RFC. Sadly, it had been on the cards for a long time, but their defeat at home to Leicester Lions on Saturday means that with just two games left they can no longer…

Moseley, ‘Derby ’til I die’ and we have only ourselves to blame…

Yesterday was a sad day for Moseley…or Birmingham Moseley as we’ll have to get used to calling them come June onwards. The rebranding of the club is an attempt, apparently, at creating a wider appeal across the city and to generate more sponsorship, although I doubt many who follow local rugby will see Birmingham Moseley as anything but…

Blackheath…

The final 13 minutes or so were as tense as anything this season. And that’s including the home game  against Richmond in January, when Cov defended their lines so valiantly to deny the opposition any opportunity to score, in so doing earning themselves a hugely creditable, and eerily similar, 20-20 draw. A Rob Knox try on 69 minutes had brought…

Blackheath, Moseley and Creative Parallel…

So today is to be my last away game of the season, having made the decision that with nothing really to play for, Wharfedale is probably a bit too far for a day trip. I always enjoy travelling, whether it be with friends as it was a couple of weeks ago or by public transport as is…
